About Workshop

“I really appreciated both the training course and the workshop. The training was very informative and useful for the following week. I found that there was a good balance between topics presented. I really liked some of the presentations in the second week with a more applied focus as they’re closer to my research interests”

“The training lectures were great. The organisers were really helpful and created an atmosphere of collaboration between the participants of the training part. I think the training part was the highlight for me as it really helped building the foundations for the following workshop week.”

This workshop was part of the ICMS Mathematics for Humanity initiative. The workshop provided a forum for the development of mathematical thinking applied to climate tipping points and their possible impacts. We invited a variety of experts across the Mathematical Sciences research spectrum to deliver an assessment of the mechanisms and risks of tipping events in the Earth’s climate and ecosystems under anthropogenic forcing scenarios. This helped to understand the associated impacts, including implications for mitigation and adaptation.

The proposed workshop aimed to give a forum for discussion of state-of-the art developments in and applications of mathematical sciences to tipping-aware risk assessments as well as adaptation and mitigation strategies. It also aimed to bring open questions of relevance to the attention of researchers in the mathematical sciences.
