The next KE Hub online Triage Workshop will be presented by Mapscape:

Validating and extending tree canopy growth and carbon sequestration models

We are seeking mathematical and data science support to validate and improve an existing tree canopy growth projection model developed through the University of Bristol ESGI 187 (July 2025), and to incorporate findings from a subsequent gap analysis.

We now have access to substantial historical tree-survey data, which creates an opportunity to test model accuracy, refine assumptions, and improve predictive reliability.

A linked challenge is to strengthen carbon sequestration calculations, which are currently based on tree trunks and projected through 2050 in five-year increments.

We seek mathematical support as to whether additional tree and soil components can be included in a scientifically robust and practical way to improve the accuracy of the calculations.

The goal is to develop a validated, explainable model and formula set that can be implemented in Mapscape software for 2D/3D visualisation, prototype testing, and carbon planning to improve long-term tree–infrastructure decision-making.
