The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Edinburgh is calling for expressions of interest to be the Academic Lead for a pilot project with a duration of 6-9 months, starting as soon as possible. The aim of the project is to engage and consult the mathematical community on AI training and access needs.
We are seeking a member of the mathematical community with experience of AI applications in mathematical research or education and an interest to engage with the recent developments in mathematics assisted by AI tools.
The Lead will have the experience to manage effectively the £500k budget of the project and be able to engage with the UK mathematical community. They will be able to design and lead the project, provide oversight for its delivery and be responsible for its dissemination plan.
The Lead would be on a paid secondment to the project for at least 50% of their time, and will be responsible for reporting at the end of it.
The expected outputs include:
• Engagement and consultation to understand AI training and access needs;
• A series of three training workshops, each including a public write-up;
• A plan for a long-term programme, based on learnings from the pilot.
We envisage that the Lead will occasionally travel to ICMS in Edinburgh. They will also convene a working group, with the possibility of further secondments. Administrative support will be given.
