The next KE Hub online Triage Workshop will be presented by Ministry of Justice:

Optimisation of Crown Court listing

The Crown Court outstanding caseload is at a record high of nearly 80,000 as of September 2025. An independent review of the criminal courts was commissioned and has just published its second phase in which it recommends the creation of a national listing framework. We are looking into how we can respond to this recommendation.

Listing in the criminal courts refers to the scheduling of cases that a court plans to hear. Currently, there is variation in court listing practices from region to region, so we are looking to provide analytical support on what a national listing framework could include.

Through this workshop, we are looking for methods we could use to better anticipate the impact of cases coming into the system and inform subsequent listing decisions, offering solutions that are easy to understand, simple to use and reliable. This work is in its exploratory phase and further detail will be discussed on the day.
