The Academy for the Mathematical Sciences Maths Manifesto for Scotland

With the Scottish Parliamentary elections coming up in May 2026 the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences has produced a Manifesto for Mathematical Sciences in Scotland, written by their Manifesto Working Group to highlight the importance of the mathematical sciences to Scotland’s economy and society. The document champions Scotland’s considerable and significant mathematical heritage, highlighting the current successes  in research in Scotland’s universities, and looking to the future by asking an incoming Scottish government to consider a range of questions and options to show their commitment to the development of the mathematical sciences across Scotland.  These range from looking at innovative approaches to recruiting and retaining maths teachers in schools to embedding the mathematical sciences in policy and investment in frontier technologies.   The manifesto outlines the Academy’s vision and priorities for the sustained growth and impact of the mathematical sciences in Scotland.  Further information about the manifesto can be found on the Academy website.
