Scotland’s economy: the contribution of the mathematical sciences

The Academy for the Mathematical Sciences hosted a community event at ICMS in Edinburgh last week to mark the launch of their report in to the value of the mathematical sciences to the Scottish economy. The report shows that £36bn – about one fifth of Scotland’s economy – can be attributed to the mathematical sciences. The report can be found on the Academy website.  There is also an opinion piece in The Scotsman written by Dame Muffy Calder on the importance of investing in the mathematical sciences in higher education.
